Phoenix & Family

December 22, 2009

We met up with our good friends Marilyn and Shelby in Deep Ellum on a gorgeous day over the weekend to shoot their son Phoenix.   Shelby is a musician in town and we thought Deep Ellum to be a fitting location for their family’s personality.   Enjoy these images!

Tony & Chelsea

December 19, 2009

Synthia and I had a great time this week shooting Tony and his sister at the studio.  They asked for a few things from the shoot: an italian/mobster family portrait, a picture that has the look of a band promo shot and individuals for their parents.

Amy & Matt

Synthia and I had a fantastic time shooting this wedding at Avanti.  Amy & Matt are a great couple and you could really sense the commitment they have for one another.

Craighead-Green Gallery

July 24, 2009

One of my images was accepted into an exhibition for the New Texas Talent show at Craighead-Green gallery in Dallas, TX.   The exhibition will run from July 25th to September 5th.

Info below:

Conceived in 1994 by Craighead Green Gallery, New Texas Talent is designed to introduce and promote emerging visual artists in the commercial market. Each year, approximately 600 images are submitted for review by a gallery selected juror. The juror then independently selects artists to participate in the New Texas Talent exhibition.  Through their participation in the show, some artists have been offered representation by galleries and/or have been extended invitations for inclusion in future exhibitions. The exhibition and its participants have also received media exposure in such publications as D Magazine, The Dallas Morning News, and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. One artist that exemplifies this success allowed by participation in NTT is Marla Ziegler, who has been with Craighead Green for over 14 years. Ziegler has received national and international acclaim for her work in Ceramics since her association with the Gallery. This year CGG received a record breaking 370 entries from across the state. The juror, Dr. Charissa Terranova, reviewed over 1200 images and selected over 40 works to be in this upcoming exhibition. The selections are diverse, including paintings, sculpture, photography, and installations. She has brought a fresh perspective to NTT that reflects what is going on in the art community in the state of Texas.

As stated by Terranova: “The works in this exhibition engage three-dimensional space in unique ways.  Some represent space in two dimensions while others forthrightly extend outward into the environment of the gallery.  By intervening in and showing space inventively — in ways that are sculptural, urban, and architectural — the works in this exhibition collectively make a statement on materiality and materialism.  That it to say, this work is in no way metaphysical.  It is boldly manmade and with us in the here and now.  It does not intend to catalyze spiritual feelings of transcendence.  Rather, this form probes the ground — zones of standing and walking — and interacts with roving bodies, making the galleries of Craighead Green so many everyday spaces.”

About the Juror: Dr. Charissa N. Terranova is Assistant Professor of Aesthetic Studies at the University of Texas at Dallas and Director of Centraltrak: The UT Dallas Artists Residency.  Since arriving in Dallas from Boston in 2004, Dr. Terranova has been deeply engaged in the arts culture and urban history of Dallas-Fort Worth.  She publishes journalism and academic writing in manifold venues, both local and international, and is currently completing a book manuscript, Automotive Prosthetic, on contemporary art, visual culture, the automobile, cybernetics, and perception. She has written art criticism for the Dallas Observer, Dallas Morning News, THE Magazine, Art News, Sculpture Magazine, Art Lies, Art Papers, Glasstire.com, Fluentcollab.org, and Stretcher.org.  Her scholarship has been published in Oase, The Senses and Society, Journal of Urban History, and Urban History Review.

Dr. Terranova has done an exceptional job of choosing a great selection of Texas artist for our 2009 exhibition. We hope you will attend the opening. Saturday July 25, 11AM – 8PM, Artists and Dr. Terranova in attendance 5 – 8 PM.
